The Power of Two Fellowship Campaign - Raising Funds for Rare Disease Research
HELLO COMPLEX LYMPHATIC ANOMALY (CLA) COMMUNITY!
Last year we launched the POWER OF ONE Campaign.
And...
Look at what your support has accomplished in advancing CLA research:
1. We now have a POWER OF ONE FELLOW working with Dr. Timothy Le Cras to advance and improve treatments of kaposiform lymphangiomatosis (KLA).
Meet Charles "Griffin" McDaniel, a rising third year MD-PhD student in the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Griffin had plans to enter a surgeon's lab to do his research thesis work. BUT lucky for us - we managed to convince him to focus on vascular and lymphatic anomalies. He now is planning to become a surgeon-scientist studying CLAs.
2. We now have our first ever published review on KLA! In just a few short months, working in Dr. Le Cras and team's basic science lab, Griffin completed the first chapter of his thesis - a review of the diagnosis, treatment and care of those living with Kaposiform Lymphangiomatosis (KLA) published in Pediatric Blood & Cancer. 3. We now have a KLA mouse model that Dr. Le Cras and his team were able to successfully develop to begin testing new treatments for KLA.
WHAT IS NEXT?
Successful research takes smart, dedicated and passionate scientists and it costs money. When I asked Dr. Le Cras what more we can do - he said one word:
MANPOWER!
We need early investigators in the lab doing the experiments.
The POWER OF ONE fellowship is truly a testament to how funding young investigators advances science.
And, while we are starting to make progress, the only way to keep this up is to support more Fellowships.
We believe that the power of one person can change the world of medicine.
NOW WE ARE AIMING FOR THE POWER OF TWO and many more!
--will you join us to see what the power of many can do?
