Meet JJ

JJ

When Cincinnati Walks for Kids began 14 years ago, Team JJ was among the first to line up at the starting line—and it’s still the best day of the year for the team’s namesake. JJ’s mom, Kathy, sees it as a way to celebrate her son, his progress and all the friends and family who have supported him through his health challenges. Every year, they lace up their sneakers to enjoy a day of celebration and fun activities—and to give back to the place that has given them so much.

JJ has been a patient here since he was 10 days old, when he was diagnosed with a rare developmental disability that affects his cognitive and motor skills. He puts in a lot of hard work with our occupational, physical and speech therapists, so his team directs their fundraising to those divisions.

“We have access to one of the top children’s hospitals in the country right here in our hometown,” Kathy says. “The walk is a wonderful way to come together to support what the medical center does for our special needs community. It feels like home.”

JJ loves coming to the walk and connecting with other kids who are going through similar challenges. “When we’re there, he doesn’t feel different,” Kathy shares. “No one stares at him. He gets to be a normal kid. I can’t tell you how happy that makes all of us who love him.”

You can help JJ and all the kids counting on our world-renowned care by joining us at Cincinnati Walks for Kids on Saturday, May 16 at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden!
