My Cincinnati Walks for Kids Fundraiser
As a nurse I have always seen firsthand how lucky I am. I am lucky to have Cincinnati Children's so close to home, lucky for the excellent medical care that is offered, and lucky that my own kids have been given the opportunity to thrive with the care they have received.
I never knew we how much my own family would need the services offered at Cincinnati Children's when I started working there. I was fortunate to begin my personal journey when I found out about the twins' diagnosis of cleft lip and cleft palate at my routine ultrasound. My coworkers stepped into action and guided me to staff who worked in genetics/craniofacial. I was able to meet with part of the team before the twins were even born and start to plan our journey. Through this journey I have learned valuable lessons that have helped me become a better nurse.
I now have the honor of working with the craniofacial team and can truly relate to parents and say, "I understand what you are going through". I have been the mom worried about a diagnosis. I have been the mom trying to get to appointments and learn how to feed my babies. I have been the worried mom sitting in the waiting room while her babies are in surgery. My children have taught me how to be strong, how to persevere, and that there are challenges we all go through but to keep moving on. I hope to help patients and families in the same manner.
Please consider joining us by either walking or donating. The money we raise goes to the Craniofacial Center with the goal to use funds to develop a camp for patients and families.
Our family has had overwhelming support through the years are we are beyond blessed. We hope we can give other families that opportunity as well.
With sincere gratitude,
Kelli
